Thanksgiving in Halifax

Posted by: TBurnett    in Building Tesha

Had a busy week in Halifax. Brian and David, of course, were great hosts as were John and Kevin, the welders who are working on my boat. For me, this was a working vacation, the first real time that I’ve been able to work on the boat’s hull and I was very happy to have Amy along to share the fun. In short, we ended up making the compass binicle and stern mooring bit. We got aluminum bulkheads in around the engine room and cut holes for all the hatches. Amy and I lifted lots of templates, some of which will help us in Austin. Saturday, our last day, Amy and I drove down to Lunenburg via 333 to see a bit of Nova Scotia. I want to thank Brian in particular, who let us stay at his house. Thanks to everyone, thank you very much.

Amy Routing

Posted by: TBurnett    in Building Tesha

Amy and I have been slowly shaping the doubles. Routing, filing, grinding and sanding. The big news is that we both leave for Halifax on Sunday to visit the boat for a week!

Routing Double Blocks

Posted by: TBurnett    in Building Tesha

It’s just getting dark too early for me to get lots done during the week. At some point, I am going to have to get a better place to work, lights, power and 24 hour access. The most interesting news is that I found another RedPath on the web. This one was built in New Zealand and is up for sale in Annapolis. If mine turns out to be half as nice, I’ll be extremely happy! Check it out The builder’s link with photos is here Just following the projects to ‘Jennie’. They did a truly beautiful job.

Block Grinding

Posted by: TBurnett    in Building Tesha

Been primarily working on blocks, thanks to Elliot for letting me use his work shop, and to Amy and Ross for coming out and helping.  Amy and I traded belt sanding today for 5 hours.  Out of the ~45 blocks I have to make, 3 are now past the soaking in linseed oil stage.  All 16 doubles are squared and ready to be routed.  9 more of the singles are ready to be soaked.  I accidently drilled through one of my hatch frames trying to put in a latch the other day.  Will have to fix that.  And I have been working on a model of the boat in Google SketchUp so I can get accurate dimensions of the interior.  That has been a major pain.  Also, even though I finished my boarding ladder a month ago, I am just now posting an image.
