More Binnacle Work

Posted by: TBurnett    in Building Tesha

Shaped all the molding this week and finished out the hole for the compass to sit in the mount. Still waiting on my screws to show up, but did buy a doweling kit to help attach the rack to the back of the binnacle. Need to have a few more boards planed before I can finish this project. Last time I was at Elliots I didn’t have enough wood for the bottom. Oversight on my part. :)

Cutting Molding

Posted by: TBurnett    in Building Tesha

Been having a hard time trying to get all I want done in a weekend. However, Amy I did find time to make the compass mount for the binnacle. I think the compass looks pretty nice on it. We also cut a bunch of molding for the binnacle which I’ll shape next week.

Foamed

Posted by: TBurnett    in Building Tesha

Cleats were installed on the ribs and the boat was completely foamed. Yay! I think it looks really good and it is nice to have a major milestone complete. Thanks Brian and David!

Was not able to put many hours toward the boat this week since I was in DC on business, but I did work on the compass binnacle a bit, routing and gluing together a circular platform on which to mount the compass.

Foamed

Posted by: TBurnett    in Building Tesha

Tesha should have been foam this weekend, but will verify with YachtSmiths this week. Hopefully have some pictures shortly.

Spent a little bit of time at Elliot’s were we planed a few small boards for the binnacle’s binnocular/coffee cup rack. Thanks Elliot. Didn’t have enough wood for the trim, but can get that this week.

S2 7.3

Posted by: TBurnett    in Building Tesha

This big news this week is that Amy and I bought an S2 7.3 to play with until my big boat gets down here. We’ve been chatting about it for months, and finally found a nice boat at the right price. Thanks Mr. & Mrs. Kerr. Haven’t been able to take a sail on it yet, but we did spend the night on it this last Friday night.

Had another chat with YachtSmiths and they are going to weld in cleats for the cabin sole and ceiling before it gets foamed.

Started assembling the binnacle box this week. It is coming to together nicely, but I ran out of screws. Hate that. Got to order more from Jamestown. I had also been designing a little wooden box to put the compass it, but Amy talked me out of it. Instead, I’ll build up a little wooden pedistal for it and already from the model, it looks much nicer. Thanks babe. Hop and I managed to finish sanding the engine room vents. Thanks Hop.
