I have never been happy with the dorades that I built believing that they were too small for Tesha. They are nicely built however, so I have been waffleing back and forth about re-doing them. This week, since I was out traveling I redesigned them. I don’t know where I had originally seen dorades like this, but I certainly got the idea from another boat. Anyway, this design is without the plastic/brass/stainless scoop, but rather can catch air from either end via a door that can be closed and latched. I believe it will be less prone to catching lines although the actual dorade is a hair larger. There are of course 2 baffles surrounding a pipe. The pictures should make it more obvious.
Bryan ordered the batteries which should be showing up next week!

All the work this weekend was on Henry’s tender. Long list of things got done actually, mostly because the weather was awesome and it was so much fun. We got the front railing and knees in and shaped. The oar lock reinforcements are on. We cut the hole for the mast, made a mast bracket/step/support and shaped the mast to fit. Reinforced the stern for the rudder pindles.
For the big boat this week, it was mostly reading up on batterys, props and thru-hulls. Brian called and asked if I wanted to get on an order for a couple of Odyssey Deep cycle batteries, so hopefullly those will be ordered soon. Picked out a battery box as well. Brian is also going to check into the prop soon. I read up on the Michigan Wheel MP3 that looked good for Tesha.

Henry has named his tender “Goby”. This weekend Amy and I put the rails on his boat. I had cut down the rails sometime back with Amy’s brother Mike, but we finally got around to putting them on. We also installed the stern knees that I made 2 months ago and will work on some knees for the bow soon. We cut the spars out too, this would be the mast (eight sided), the boom and sprit.
My only goal for the weekend was to route the edges of the propane lockers, the rest I spent working on Henry’s little boat. A few months ago, Amy and I decided to make Henry a tender for the big boat. Not that we have a lot of spare time, but we chip away at it from time to time. Since I don’t have much to work on the big boat at the moment, I’ll probably just try to finish it in the next few weekends…..
The drive shaft log is in and the engine is sitting on the bed. Yah!
