Rail Work

Posted by: TBurnett    in Building Tesha

Spent some time modeling/re-modeling the stern rail of Tesha. Ryan and I have been looking at it the last year, wanting to do something a little different. I modeled it up in SketchUp and sent it along to the guys at the shop. Added some curve to it.

Amy and I glued up the transom for our dingy, made the mast partner and got the spine and frame B3 glued to the bottom panel. Other than that, it has been a light week for us.

PortLight

Posted by: TBurnett    in Building Tesha

We got the 8″ portlight we ordered last week. A little hefter than I had imagined but it looks like it will do just fine.

Steve got part of the floor in the engine room and made a little access hatch for the engine intake thru-hull. I think it looks real nice. Ryan finished up the hatch logs and they look real nice too. I think he is going to add some drains to them, but I am pleased the boat can finally be made water tight. At least from deck side. :)

Amy and I launched Goby this weekend. Actually it was the test launch, the official launch will be in two weeks when Henry can bring all his friends. Yes, it floated, it sailed, I got wacked on the head and Amy flipped. Awesome.

We spent time on our tender as well. Cut out more frames. Glued up the doublers on the spine. Made the pieces for the centerboard casing and cut it’s hole thru the bottom of the boat. I had a kickback from the tablesaw shoot a small strip across our shop and into a board. It narrowly missed me. Sure wakes you up though. We routed all the edges for the frames and bottom. Makes the pieces look more finished and am guessing allows for a better fillet with epoxy.

Hatch Logs Started

Posted by: TBurnett    in Building Tesha

Ryan started the hatch logs this week. Nearly two years after Amy and I made them, they will finally go on the boat. Yay! The picture is of the hatch logs on the aft cabin.

Ordered an 8″ round stainless portlight from New Found Metals to see if it would to the trick for Teaha. I’ll bring it up on my next trip and if it works, I’ll order 9 more of them. Got to get all the ventilation in the boat before we bring it down to Texas.

Amy and I put in some good time this week on our tender. Got the bow transom made, frames B1, B2 and B4 are cut, the spine is cut, the bottom panel is cut and on the build jig. The Sherpa plans are fun, much more than the Optimist.
