Mast Cones

Posted by: TBurnett   in Building Tesha

Ryan welding up the tops of both mast this past week. This consist of two cones that match the cone on the front of the bow sprit. Ryan also started putting up fiberglass paneling in the engine room. As for myself, I’ve just been tweaking the SketchUp model of the Lewmar V4 vertical capstan.

Hello Amy and Tom, Wow what a great job you guys are doing!! Working on a 42ft steel schooner in northern Minnesota. Question? have you spoken with anybody using that single halyard lifts on the gaffs? Give me a E if you can. Congrats and Best Regards Randy

Thanks Randy, you have a page for your project? Would love to see some pictures of it. I haven’t really had a chat with anybody about them, except I guess for Michael Kasten. As I recall, he said they were more than adequate for short gafts, and there may be a downhaul for tension. I may rig it more traditionally if it becomes a problem. I designed the gafts to go either way. The halywards themselves will be rigged through a double block at the mast head with the port side having a another set of double blocks that should allow for at least 4 to purchase. The starboard sign will get the sail to top. If there is a problem, then the port side can finish the task. A downhaul will still be present. How is that?
Thomas.
